After a semi cloudy weekend, women's beach volleyball enthusiasts will be huddling together along the sandy Alamitos Beach of Long Beach, California for the 11th FIVB World Tour Grand Slam competition beginning Tuesday, July 22 to July 27th.
As the 36th largest city in the US, Long Beach is perfectly situated on the southern tip of Los Angeles County along the Pacific Ocean which undoubtedly will provide players and spectators of this year's FIVB competition with some wonderful breezes during some exciting and heated moments. Although all 475,000 local residents most probably will not attend this great event, some representatives from a local and sustainable manufacturing company will; those being employees of Earth Friendly Products.
This year, the manufacturers of the world's top-selling green laundry detergent, ECOS will be sponsoring Vicky Arvaniti and Maria Tsiartsiani, Greece’s top women’s beach volleyball team as they strive to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio at the FIVB World Tour in Long Beach.
Team Vicky Arvaniti and Maria Tsiartsiani have had a volleyball partnership since 2009 when they finished their season together reaching 7th in the world ranking. Kelly Vlahakis-Hanks, CEO of Earth Friendly Products says, “We are so excited to sponsor Vicky and Maria again on their road to the Olympics. They are superb athletes and play with such dedication and heart and are the perfect representatives for Greece. The entire Earth Friendly Products family is ready to cheer on Team Vicky/Maria from the sidelines.”
This is an especially important year for Tsiartsiani as she plans her comeback after a shoulder injury at the Bangsaen Open in Thailand in October 2012. After her withdrawal, Tsiartsiani gave birth to her first child – her daughter Sophia. Greece’s coach, Kostas Tampouratzis put her (Tsiartsiani) name on the national squad roster for the start of qualifications for the Rio 2016 Olympic games.
Team Vicky/Maria will be bringing their combined force to the FIVB Grand Slam in Long Beach, California where they will compete to qualify in the World Series of Beach Volleyball.
The late Dr. Van Vlahakis, a Greek native who founded Earth Friendly Products (EFP) in 1967 opened their first global office in Athens, Greece in 2013. Dr. Vlahakis had a special connection to his homeland and felt it was his duty as a Greek American to take some of his success back to Greece while encouraging other companies to invest in the Greek economy. It appears Dr. Vlahakis' dream of creating a sustainable company is helping secure the dreams on the sand of this dynamic Greek Volley Ball duo, Team Vicky Arvaniti and Maria Tsiartsiani.
So grab your kids and take a stroll down to Alamitos Beach in Long Beach this week to watch the FIVB World Tour and cheer on your favorite team be it the dynamic duo from Greece or our very own, Kerri Walsh and April Ross in their competition. Most tickets are free and the dreams that may be ignited by your children while watching such awesome talent on the sand may quite well be priceless! For more information go to http://www.wsobv.com/.
