The festivities are in full swing at the Avenue at White Marsh. The popular shopping venue is proving to be much more than just a place to get your holiday shopping—in fact, holiday celebrations are already underway with numerous events, both past and upcoming.
The seasonal celebrations began on Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. with the 13th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. An array of activities kept the spirit cheerful including live music, street vendors and even a personal appearance by Santa himself! Santa arrived at 7 p.m. and, as guest of honor, lighted the 35-foot tree. Santa stayed a while to visit with children. At 8 p.m., an outdoor screening of Elf was shown on two 26-foot screens.
If you missed this event, do not fret. You will have plenty more chances to celebrate the holidays at White Marsh. For almost as long as the tree lighting ceremony there has been a holiday parade. Now for the twelfth year, government officials, local high school bands, media personalities, mascots, street dancers, troops and other diverse members will parade down the Avenue on Dec. 4, beginning at 10 a.m.
The holiday happenings at White Marsh are so popular, that the upcoming Breakfast with Santa, on Dec. 5 at Red Brick Station, is already sold out. This past Nov. 27 event also sold out fast as children enjoyed a breakfast buffet with Santa Claus live and in person.
The Avenue is open for a most warming shopping experience to soften winter’s blow. On Christmas Eve, the Avenue will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On New Year’s Eve the Avenue opens at 10 a.m. and remains in full operation until 6 p.m. New Year’s Day opens at 11 a.m. and remains open until 6 p.m. Note, each retailer’s operational hours vary, so be sure to check each store individually.
