Dreamers Who Win!

Can you imagine it’s around the mid 1920’s and you have a huge dream. Your efforts to bring this dream to life started in the Midwest where you started a business. But that business failed. So you pack your bags and go to Hollywood, California. Alas it takes money to make dreams come true. So there you stand in front of a man who has more than enough to fund your project, all you have to do is gain his trust. “So what is your background in this proposed business?” “Well I had a similar business back in Kansas.” you say. “How did that work out?” asks your vital funding source. “Actually sir, it failed.” you offer. “Did you ever have any time in military service?” asks your money man. “Yes sir I certainly did, I was in the Marine Corps.” you say brightly. “Ah, the Marines! How did that work for you young man?” asks the money man. “Not too good.” you timidly offer. “What does that mean young man?” he says testily. “I was dishonorably discharged.” you say sheepishly. “One more time, who or what is the star of your project?” he asks. “It is a rodent sir, more specifically a mouse.” you say timidly. “So let’s see now, you were already in this business and it failed. You were in the Marine Corps but dishonorably discharged and your star is a rat.” says the man harshly. “A mouse sir, not a rat.” you correct. “Rat, mouse who cares certainly not me!” screams the man signaling you that it’s time to withdraw. Yep! It had to have been tough for Walt Disney but he kept on keeping on and by any measure he and Mickey havebeen huge successes.

Nearly a century later things haven’t really changed all that much.  Oh sure the technology is mind blowing and video images including full movies are available everywhere including our cell phones.  But the dreams are still with us and for that we are indeed blessed, because without the dreamers our future would become very dull and dark.

One such dreamer I happened to meet awhile back now is Ken Mora, the man behind Bella Fe Films and Magnum Farce.  Magnum Farce is an animated story line that has fun with and pokes fun at the “Dirty Harry” franchise.  For an example of this work you may visit this site:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjZV2RLj1iw&feature=youtu.be.   As you can see Ken Mora has already won many film festival laurels.   But the big feature film remains a work in progress.

The good news is that there is progress.  Recently Ken contacted an “A” list actor to try and get him involved or “attached” as they say.  The matter is still pending but the actor did express sincere interest.  Achieving that milestone would be huge for Ken because it would make getting solid distribution far more likely and distribution is king.

Day to day Ken soldiers on.  I recently visited him at his home in West Los Angeles and the signs of a committed dreamer are everywhere.  His studio/office is amazingly well equipped with a sound proof recording booth for the voice over actors.  He even has one wall painted chroma key blue for future video interviews.  You sure don’t see that in every bedroom in America.

A dreamer yes, but Ken Mora is also a realist and so has established late 2013 for a real release date for his animated feature film.  I for one think he will make it and ahead of schedule.  The story line is hilarious and compelling, the art work is superb and Ken is absolutely driven.  So will the success of Magnum Farce mark the beginning of the end for Disney?  Of course not, but it will I sincerely believe mark the beginning of a thoroughly enjoyable series of new animated entertainment.  For more information about Bella Fe Films do visit their website at www.bellafefilms.com.  Heck if Walt could sell his mouse then why not a Magnum Farce.
