Houses in our dreams may refer to our own minds; their rooms comprise the compartments or levels in which we conduct the daily business of our lives. Sometimes our dreams look in the basement to give us a glimpse of any buried issues we need to address. Or, as in today’s dream, we may explore the attic and find higher achievement or something that blocks it!
I have a recurring dream in which I am exploring a beautiful, historic home. Sometimes I am in a sort of “old money” neighborhood, house hunting and see it there. I know it is out of my reach, but I go in to look anyway. The house is extraordinary with three stories, leaded windows, huge rooms with wood floors, crown molding and massive fireplaces. It is such an amazing house and I picture myself living there and looking out those beautiful windows! One room that always draws me is a grand room on the third floor. It is long and wide ~ could be used as a ballroom, or for an elegant living space. It takes my breath away.
Last night, as I was being pulled up the stairs toward that grand room, I discovered there was a pregnant woman there at the top of the stairs. She was angry. She seemed to be poor and angry in general, but also angry at me. She would not let me onto the third floor.
What do you make of this development in what is normally an exciting exploration of a somewhat unattainable home?
The best way to get a clear understanding of a recurring dream is to make a note when you have it along with a few notes about what is going on in your waking life at the same time. It is certain that the two are connected.
But even without that connector, we have some good clues as to the significance of the dream and its latest evolution for you:
Your dream suggests that you have aspirations that you tell yourself are grander than you can attain. This is symbolized by your statement that you are house hunting – you want to live in that neighborhood – but that the house is out of your reach.
You go in anyway and begin to imagine yourself living there. This process of visualization is one used by many high achievers who say you must be able to see your goal in order to achieve it. In fact, you are drawn to the highest level of the house where you find a pregnant woman, a perfect symbol of creativity. But her anger will not let you rise to the top.
It is your own anger you must attend to, Dear Dreamer. Your impoverished manner of thinking holds you back and will not allow you to achieve at the highest levels. Let it go if you want to rise to the top!
Sweet Dreams to You!
