In the last few years, Indianapolis’s burlesque scene has seen an explosion of new troupes, dancers, fans, and venues willing to host shows that feature this timeless and innovative art form. A wonderful development, Indianapolis has proven itself as a city filled with fans and performers capable of pushing new boundaries and taking a risk on stage as they put together shows and pack the seats with supportive audiences. New groups like Angel Burlesque and Pur! Burlesque are bringing the art form to venues where it hasn’t been performed prior and in styles that welcome new audiences into the fold.
That said, there are some events that at this point, are tradition. Bottoms Up Burlesque’s annual spring show at Radio Radio is one of the cornerstone events that helped build Indianapolis’s burlesque scene into what it is today. An annual event, the troupe has been putting on this spring extravaganza since before the days when White Rabbit Cabaret brought burlesque to the Fountain Square neighborhood. Radio Radio, a venue recently featured in an article on CNN.com as one of the best in town, is a funky retro space perfectly designed for those who like their burlesque with a little bit of edge.
Still not motivated to plan something unusual and fun for this weekend? Even better, as is true for all Bottoms Up Burlesque events, all proceeds will be donated to a local charity. In this case, proceeds will benefit Creating Hope, an Indianapolis-based group who helps women undergoing treatment for breast cancer through art therapy.
The ladies of Bottoms Up will take the stage at 9:00 pm, followed by the incredible sounds of the End Time Spasm Band. Compared to the Squirrel Nut Zippers, their New Orleans jazz meets 1930s blues sound is all the rage right now, and Bottoms Up is thrilled to share the stage with this exciting band. Together, the two acts promise an incredible night of entertainment and fun, with all proceeds going to a great cause. I don’t know what else you had planned for the weekend, but it cannot possibly be better than this. See you there!
