Dramatic video: Coast Guard rescues injured Carnival passenger

Another cruise ship rescue this week, as a Coast Guard helicopter crew from Houston evacuated a 73 year old man from Carnival Triumph.

This was an unusual nighttime operation on Thursday near midnight.  The ship was about 120 miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas.

The man was suffering from a blood clot in his foot, and upon arrival in Houston was taken to a local hospital.

The Coast Guard video shows the rescue swimmer being lowered to the deck of the cruise ship from the MH-65C Dolphin helicopter, followed by the stretcher. Then, the helicopter makes another pass from the ship's stern and then hoists the patient on the stretcher from the deck.

At the end of the operation, the rescue swimmer is hoisted from the deck.

You'll notice during the video the ship is moving through the water, and how the helicopter synchronizes it's speed, appearing motionless over the deck.
