After recently announcing that his forthcoming album Nothing Was The Same will be released September 24, he also released the cover art for his new album, which gives off a more artistic vibe.
Designed by Kadir Nelson, the cover depicts the rapper’s transition from a young boy to a man. A side profile of a younger version of Drake with an afro is placed across from an adult version of Drizzy.
“[Drake] wanted a signature painting,” Nelson told MTV News. “He didn’t want something that looked like a hip-hop album cover—he wanted something that was a little bit more artsy and had more weight to it, so I did a number of sketches, and when we picked out what he liked, I sculpted it together.”
He continued, “Art is always open for interpretation, but he wanted something that represented his heart, both as a kid and as an adult.”
Check out the cover art above and be sure to pick up Nothing Was The Same when it hits shelves September 24.
