Ryan Henderson, a Drake University senior from Lenexa, Kansas, was found dead Sunday, Sept. 5. He was discovered unresponsive in his car at 6:30 am outside of a friend’s apartment. According to the Des Moines Register, foul play is not suspected.
On Thursday, the Polk County medical examiner said that there were no possible causes of death revealed through an initial autopsy. In a few weeks, toxicology results will be available, possibly offering more insight into Henderson’s cause of death.
This tragic incident has left students seeking answers and peace. On Thursday, one of Drake’s student ministries, Intervarsity, hosted a prayer vigil in Henderson’s memory. Students from all faiths were invited to attend and honor his life with other Drake students.
In the words of President Maxwell to the faculty, staff and student body, “It is at times like these that we must be able to rely on one another for solace and comfort.”
And, it is at times like these that we must pray for one another. Pray for the family and friends close to Ryan, that they would find comfort, hope and peace. Pray for the students and the Drake campus, that they would experience and know the love of God in these times of uncertainty. We must rally around the friends and family of Henderson as well as the Drake community and offer our prayers and words of support and hope.
