Drake University graduate student Cliffton Murove, of Gweru, Zimbabwe, was on the balcony of a friend’s apartment in Des Moines when he fell to his death early the morning of Saturday, Sept. 11.
According to initial investigations, no foul play is suspected in Murove’s death. This incident is the second loss in just a week for the Drake University campus. Senior Ryan Henderson was found dead in his car, slumped over the steering wheel just outside a friend’s apartment on Sept. 5. An initial autopsy revealed no cause of death. Students are devastated and hurt by the sudden, tragic losses.
This marks the third death in six months of a Drake University student. Just last spring student Benjamin Backstrom was found dead of a gunshot wound. Police ruled it a suicide, while the family denies the allegations.
With the campus deeply moved and shaken from these events, now more than ever they need spiritual covering and guidance. Students have many unanswered questions, an anger at the situation and heavy hearts. The Drake campus – including both students and faculty – need your prayers. Pray for peace, comfort and healing - for the campus, as well as for the family and friends of Murove. Pray for the presence of God on the campus, for the love of God to be revealed. Now more than ever, Drake needs the peace of God to cover the campus and the student body and for the love of God to be made known.
