Drake sets record for most No 1 rap songs on Billboard

Drake has broken the record for most No. 1 songs on Billboard’s Rap Songs with his latest chart topper “Make Me Proud.”

According to an article posted yesterday (2/3/12) at www.billboard.biz, the superstar Canuck rapper’s latest single from his smash 2011 album Take Care, has given the “Best I Ever Had” hitmaker his 11th No. 1 hit to set the new record.

“Proud,” Drizzy’s 2nd chart topping collaboration with Nicki Minaj, moved from 2nd to top spot, helping the 25-year old Toronto, ON native to surpass the previous high of 10 No. 1 songs, formally held by Diddy.

The pair previously teamed on Minaj’s hit “Moment 4 Life,” which topped the charts for 9 weeks last year.

Take Care, Drake’s follow up to his massively successful 2010 debut Thank Me Later, has ruled Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums for 7 weeks and sold 1.4 million copies so far.

The U.S. leg kicks off in Miami, FL at the Bank United Centre on Feb 14 (2/14/12), and wraps on March 11 in San Diego, before the world tour continues in the U.K.

Did you know? Drake is being sued by ex-girlfriend Ericka Lee, who claims she is entitled to royalties and writing credits for the song “Marvin’s Room.”  Drake’s spokesman has said the lawsuit is “entirely without merit.”
