Canadian rapper Drake is the latest artist to be victimized by music pirating. His debut album, entitled Thank Me Later, is set to hit stores on June 15th, but was leaked on the internet Tuesday.
The album, which has features from fellow Young Money label mates Lil' Wayne and Nicki Minaj as well as Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, is one of the most anticipated of the year.
Despite the negative impact the pirating nightmare may have on his first week sales figures, the most raved-about rap star in recent years is taking the hit in stride. “I gave away free music for years so we're good over here," he posted on his Twitter page. "Just allow it to be the soundtrack to your summer and ENJOY! JUNE 15th!”
“I didn’t make this album for commercial purposes," the rapper said earlier this year in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "A lot of the verses are extremely long. I just made it to share with people. I hope they can enjoy.”
Sharing is exactly what he's doing.
