Drake premieres new single ‘Started from the Bottom’

Drake has unveiled the first single from his upcoming third studio album.

In a surprise move, the Canuck superstar rapper posted the song “Started from the Bottom” to OctobersVeryOwn.blogspot.ca last night, contradicting an earlier announcement from his label Universal that the song would premiere on Feb. 10, the evening of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards.

In a note accompanying the audio track, Drizzy reveals the reason for the change in plans as a decision to honour his fans, saying, “I didn’t feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me.”

The Mike Zombie-produced track gives fans their first taste of the twenty-six-year-old Toronto native's as-yet-to-be-named new album.

“The Best I Ever Had” hitmakers’ new song attempts to set the record straight about his roots, rapping at the outset, "Started from the bottom, now we're here."

In his post, the former "Degrassi: The Next Generation" star explains, "I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events. My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen. I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve.”

While touring in the U.K., the twenty-six-year-old Toronto native announced that he had begun work on the follow-up to his platinum selling sophomore album “Take Care.”

Fans can listen to the new track at Drake's official blogspot.

Did you know? Drake’s 2011 album “Take Care” spent twelve weeks at No. 1 on Billboard, spawning five singles and earned “The Best I Ever Had” hitmaker a 2013 Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.
