According to a news release posted June 15 at Bellmediapr.ca, the superstar Toronto rapper won International Video of the Year by a Canadian ("Hold On, We're Going Home") and Hip-Hop Video of the Year ("Worst Behavior"). The Vancouver, B.C. pop-rock band won the most awards with their song "Anything" scooping Video of the Year, Pop Video of the Year and Favourite Video of the Year." Hedley kicked off the evening's proceedings, performing their new single "Crazy for You."
Lorde took home International Video of the Year ' Artist ("Royals"). The New Zealand-born pop star also performed her hits "Tennis Court" and "Team" live at the giant Toronto block party.
Imagine Dragons, who also also played at the event, took home the award International Video of the Year ("Demon"). Other winners included controversial Canuck pop star Justin Bieber, who won Favourite Artist, as well as his "on again-off again" girlfriend Selena Gomez who scored Favourite International Artist. Presenters included "Kick Ass" actress Chloë Grace Moretz, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's" Jena Malone, "Twilight" actor Kellan Lutz, and "Teen Wolf" star Tyler Posey along with Canadian acts The Weeknd, Marianas Trench, Mia Martina, Victoria Duffield and Nikki Yanofsky. Among the eclectic mix of performing artists were Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, as well as Canadians Kiesza, Sam Roberts Band, MAGIC! and Virginia To Vegas, featuring Alyssa Reid.
The MMVAs are an annual awards presented by the Canadian music video channel MuchMusic to honour the year's best music videos. Canada's premier video award event is also one of the most unique awards show in the world, a giant street party in downtown Toronto, outside MuchMusic headquarters, where the block is filled with thousands of people who get to witness the two-hour concert-style event for free.
