There is no need to use expensive, harsh chemicals to clean you drain. The best thing to do is prevent your drains from getting clogged in the first place. If you clean and freshen them using this recipe a couple of times per month, you'll find that your drains run smoothly without using expensive chemicals and you won't need the plumber over either.
MYO Drain Cleaner
Ingredients:
1 cup table salt
1 cup baking soda
2 cups white vinegar
tea kettle full of boiled water
Directions:
While water is boiling in the tea kettle, pour the salt into the drain. Pour baking soda on top of salt. Pour vinegar on top of baking soda. This will cause a bubbling action. When it starts to bubble, stop pouring vinegar, even if you haven't used it all. Once the bubbling starts dying down, pour the rest of the vinegar. If you used all the vinegar, use another 1/2 to 1 cup. By now the water in the kettle should be boiled. Pour the entire kettle of water down the drain and around the sink to make sure all the salt and baking soda goes down the drain. Let the drain stand for at least 1 hour after cleaning.
This will not only clean your drains, but it will freshen them as well. Repeat as needed. I usually do this once or twice a month. My drains have never run more smoothly.
