Thanks to some good Drexel defense forcing 19 Hofstra turnovers, the Dragons (11-15, 7-7 CAA) defeated the Pride, 63-54, on Thursday night. Sophomore guard Damion Lee had 17 points and junior point guard Frantz Massenat finished with 16 points and four assists. Senior guard Derrick Thomas also scored in double figures with 11 points.
In the first half, both teams did not shoot the ball well but the Drexel defense held Hofstra to 5-of-19 shooting from the field in the half allowing the Dragons to take a 33-23 lead into the break. Hofstra was able to close the gap to five points late in the second half, but the Dragons made their foul shots down the stretch to come away with the home win.
Drexel is now back at .500 in the conference and are in the middle of the pack in the conference standings. The Dragons have a shot to make up some ground in the CAA with three games on the road at Delaware, Towson and Old Dominion followed by the last home game against UNCW on March 2nd.
At this point, the important thing for Bruiser Flint's team is to gain some momentum and start playing better heading into the CAA Tournament. With only seven teams participating in the post-season tournament in Richmond this year and no one dominant team in the conference, it's really anyone's tournament to win.
