In 2005, artist and designer Sylvia Feller-Dow began to notice her custom designs being used for rubber stamps. In an "Ah-ha" moment, Sylvia had the idea to begin her own line of designer rubber stamps, and Dragonfly Laser Stamps was born.
Dragonfly Laser rubber stamps are lovingly hand made in Sylvia's studio, located in her home in New Jersey. Sylvia, along with one other employee (and sometimes her children, when things get really busy!) create, assemble and ship the stamps to customers all over the world.
Quality is of utmost importance to Sylvia, and she only uses the finest materials and processes to create the stamps that she sells. Sylvia's designs are unique and timeless, inspired by old postcards, vintage illustrations, and children's books. After a design is finalized, it is processed and lasered multiple times, and then pressed into deep etched rubber. The freshly pressed red rubber stamp is then mounted on a special foam that allows for shrinkage between the rubber and the wood mount, which makes the final stamped image crisp and clear. The maple wood handles that Sylvia mounts her stamps on are hand made by an artisan in Arizona, and shipped weekly to Sylvia's studio. The last step is to add the image decal to the front of the wood handle, which is then finished with a bit of lacquer to keep the decal image in place for a lifetime. Although a lot of work goes into creating Dragonfly Laser stamps, Sylvia keeps her prices competitive so that everyone can purchase and enjoy her stamps.
Sylvia also specialized in creating custom made-to-order rubber stamps. Any image can be made into a high-quality Dragonfly Laser rubber stamp. Once an image is submitted to Sylvia, she creates an image proof to be approved, and then the image is made into a rubber stamp. Sylvia told me that custom stamps for baby showers, engagement and wedding announcements/invitations, and return address stamps are all very popular. With no plating or set-up fee, Sylvia's custom stamps are a truly affordable gift or keepsake.
Although Sylvia stays busy as a mom to three teenagers, she still finds time to add brand new stamp designs to her store each month.
