‘Dragon Tattoo’ sequel set to star Daniel Craig, says Rooney Mara

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are both up and ready to start filming the sequel to “Dragon Tattoo.” “The Girl Who Played with Fire” is not yet underway. Word is sketchy on exactly why the whole project has taken so long, after the huge success of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” but the deal has the go-ahead from both stars, reports Access Hollywood on Saturday, Feb. 2.

“I hope so!” Rooney Mara said, when asked if shooting would start soon. Reportedly she is more than eager to take on the character of Lisbeth Salander again, complete with combat boots, rows of piercings, and elaborate ink. And in fact, this particular plot will put her in some actual glamorous clothes, in luxurious Caribbean settings. Lisbeth is play-acting, of course, pulling off an elaborate get-rich scheme.

Daniel Craig, even though he has a current hold on the “James Bond” franchise, is also ready. “Of course I’ll embrace [the movie], especially if [David] Fincher does it,” Craig said. His role will be to try and prove Lisbeth innocent of murder, against all odds. But he is good at impossible odds.

And will the Mikael Blomkvist role last until the end of the movie? Rumors have said the journalist is scheduled to be killed, in the screenplay. Nothing quite so final happens in the Stieg Larsson novel – although plenty of other people are killed – and that would preclude a third movie. “No, that’s not a possibility.” Making the film without Daniel Craig “won’t happen,” Rooney Mara said.
