Details about Dragon's Maze have been slow in coming; after all, it's been a mere month or so since Gatecrash was released, and we won't get Dragon's Maze on store shelves until May. But today, the fantasy art showcase Spectrum announced twenty nominees for its annual gold and silver awards, and lo and behold - one of the lucky nominees is a piece by Tyler Jacobson, a painting of a two-headed Ogre. What's the piece's name?
"Ruric Thar, the Unbowed."
We know this name very well thanks to some of the background material on Gatecrash - the second part of the Gatecrash Planeswalker's Guide names Ruric Thar as an important personality within the Gruul Clans. He's the terrifying and disfigured leader of the Ghor Clan, the second-largest and most important of the Clans after Borborygmos's Burning-Tree followers. So the fact that this art exists means that, in all likelihood, so does a card of Ruric Thar. And if he's going to be in Dragon's Maze, that means the other nine guilds' lieutenant leaders will be as well, just as I've predicted for months.
Here's my take on how he might appear in Dragon's Maze:
Ruric Thar, the Unbowed 3RG
Legendary Creature - Ogre Warrior (Rare)
Trample
Ruric Thar, the Unbowed can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.
Whenever a creature you control becomes blocked, it deals 3 damage to the defending player.
4/4
What do you think about the impending guild champion cycle, and how do you think Ruric Thar will look as a card? Let me know in the comments!
