With Dragon's Maze previews on the mothership to begin on Monday, and the rumor season really heating up, there have been a handful of unofficial card leaks during the past few days. The version of Varolz that was spoiled is, according to MTGSalvation rumor mill moderator TK-421 and his nameless but reliable rumor source, fake. But the copy of Render Silent that fell into a hapless FNM player's hands was apparently totally legit. Now the Izzet guild champion has purportedly been spoiled, and it's completely up in the air as to whether it's real or fake. The text of the card is as follows:

Legendary Creature - Weird (Rare)
Melek, Izzet Paragon is unblockable.
Whenever Melek deals combat damage to a player, choose one - Melek deals 2 damage divided as you choose between one or two target creatures and/or players; or draw a card.

If this Melek is real, his stats are simply incredible - he's effectively better than a 4/2 unblockable creature for 1UR, which is insane for two colors that don't do well with regards to cheap creatures. His combat-damage-trigger abilities appear to be a reference to Sword of Fire and Ice, which may actually be an indicator that he is fake (R&D probably wouldn't reference a Darksteel card in the last set of the Return to Ravnica block), but then again, it works flavorfully since Melek is a Weird, a living contradiction formed of two opposing elements. He appears to be more lightning/water than fire/ice, though, which makes this leak dubious. Still, if it's real, Commander players are going to love it, it'll see plenty of Standard action, and probably be at least a $10 card.
