Three animated films made an industry trade's marker starting from headlines to grossers amidst ticket-sales. Of the latest, "Frozen" immortalizes within only a few weeks. And in live action its been one live action flick that has played the high-tech equivalency tier of marketing and filmmaking processes to a Turbo-booster. A leader on boards that surveys 2013s domestic and international accruing financial influence, "Iron Man 3" was the wide-margin boss never without a commanding stance.

But in the waning 2013 days, just a weekend prior to Christmas and the year's final three-day domestic theater framing count, it's the last impressions that cast a long box office shadow by the giant adventures of the dimunitive Bilbo Baggins. "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" had a $31.4 million intake over Dec. 20 to 22. The fantasy epic prolonging Big Screen buzzwords like Sting, Gandalf and Legolas for long-time Tolkien book fans and new franchise fans alike.

And with a farewell to 2013 still plenty of days ahead, the Holiday wrappings torn off what a Christmas days long movie-going audience might have gifted to new or ongoing films.

For "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" the bid to overtake the Middle Earth prequel shows up not only in its $26.7 mil from the weekend, but includes ticket consumers tailoring their vacationing time for bit of comedy relief instead of a heady saga.

Another film hustler might find its scale up the box office rankings over the holiday season's time-off scheduling. "American Hustle" took in a $19.1 million second-weekender, finding its claim at 4th place just above another movie on its second three-day out, "Saving Mr. Banks" - a $9.3 million sum scaling its rank.

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" peters out a little more around national theaters. The now-6th ranker still retains its second-place significance within the highest grossing domestic films this year. On the worldwide front of 2013, it has a remarkability at a 4th ranking.

Along with a holiday timetable newcomer films drop into the theater-wide arena.
