Both Drexel teams suffered losses on Valentine's Day starting with a rare Thursday afternoon game on the women's side resulting in a 53-43 loss at Hofstra followed by a Drexel men's 68-62 home loss to George Mason in the evening.
For the Dragon women (16-7, 9-3 CAA), it was a rough day of shooting as the team finished shooting 23% from the floor, including 2-for-18 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Hollie Mershon finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds but shot 4-for-20 from the field and missed her first nine field goal attempts. Before fouling out, senior forward Taylor Wootton dropped in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
In addition to the rough day shooting, senior forward Nicki Jones suffered a knee injury in the first half and did not return. Her prognosis is still unknown at this time, but she could miss significant time during the remainder of this season.
The Drexel men's squad (10-15, 6-7 CAA) had another disappointing finish after leading for a majority of the game against George Mason. With the game close in the final minutes, Damion Lee, who finished with 16 points, knocked down a three-point to give the Dragons a two-point lead. But that three was immediately answered by Corey Edwards of Mason with a trey of his own to give the Patriots the lead for good.
Both teams have the weekend off then the men are back in action when they host Hofstra on Monday night then the women will host UNC Wilmington on Tuesday evening.
