Every year I think Dragon Con can't get bigger or better and every year it does
This year there were 57,000 fans spread through the 5 hotels and the surrounding streets, many in colorful costumes. Each and every one of them had their unique con experience. For some it may have been overwhelming, with the long lines for popular guest panels and thr crush of so many people. For some it was about the bars and parties. Some were there for Whedon or Star Trek or Doctor Who. Some spent their time in the Science and Space tracks or exploring all of the literature tracks. There were tracks to explore the paranormal or to attempt to debunk it. And then there were the vendors, the gaming, the Art Show and Charity Auction.
For me, the Con experience I know best is that of the volunteer staff person. This was the 16th Dragon Con I worked as staff. Dragon Con is run by over 1,800 volunteers. Each of us gives a minimum of 25 hours over the course of the convention. This mean that when we aren't working we are grabbing food and trying to catch what we want to see and rushing from place to place until we fall into bed exhausted. By Monday it all is a blur and it does not seem possible it is over. By Tuesday we can't wait until next year.
Who did I see this year? The Mythbusters. the super gorgeous and hilarious Johm Barrowman and his equally entertaining sister, Steve and Tango from Ghost Hunters, and some of my favorite authors like Peter S. Beagle and Larry Dixon. And many friends I only see at Con.
Dragon Con is over Time to plan next year.
In the meantime, enjoy the slideshow.
