The Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District, will run the 2010 Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy on July 24 between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. at Ping Tom Memorial Park, 300 West 19th Street.  Admission is free.

In this 10th year of the dragon boat race, Team Literacy Chicago (literacychicago.org) will participate for the first time.  The race is held yearly as a fundraiser for citywide adult literacy programs.  Teams from the Chicago Police Department and other organizations will compete.

Chinese Dragon Boat races have a 2000 year old history as a sport in Asia and Chinese American communities, and have attracted as many as 10,000 spectators in Chicago.  Asian dancers, artists, acrobats and musicians will perform as well, and the festival will include food concessions.
