"Dragon Ball Z Level 1.1" contains the most authentic version of "Dragon Ball Z" to date, and honestly, I cannot see a better version ever coming out unless you steal a master copy. All 17 episodes within the two-DVD boxset are as detailed as they as they were when they aired in 1989 in Japan. This is "Dragon Ball Z" looking its best.
Some fans have complained about the graininess of the boxset, but they fail to see what one of the primary reasons for Blu-ray are: Blu-ray is used to preserve video in its original format as well as being used to create cleaned-up versions as well. Funimation saw Blu-ray as the way to preserve the integrity of "Dragon Ball Z's" original recordings. The grain that presents itself onscreen is no different than what fans originally saw when the amine aired. The colors are vibrant and have the awe-inspiring look that only hand-drawn animation has. The sound cannot be any crisper, rounding out the ultimate "Dragon Ball Z" experience.
It will take a while for the entire 291 episode series to come out if it continues to be only 17 or so episodes, but I am sure that Funimation is doing this to keep the set's costs down during this hard economic downtime. The sets are coming out every few months though, so at least you do not have to wait an eternity. Do yourself a favor, if you are a fan of “Dragon Ball Z,” buy this.
