Originally released in Japan on March 30, 2013, Kami to Kami, translated to Battle of Gods, has finally received a dubbed release date, courtesy of Funimation. On August 5, 6, 7, and 9th the newest Dragon Ball Z film will be playing in select theaters across the United States.

Battle of Gods was released in several countries around the world last summer and fall including, Philippines, South Korea, Mexico, and Australia. It became available on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan in September of 2013. It has also debuted in Italy during February of this year and just screened in Spain this past May.

The last animated Dragon Ball film to have a theatrical release was the tenth anniversary movie, Dragon Ball: The Path to Power, in 1996. Battle of Gods is now the fourteenth film to occur in the Dragon Ball Z universe.

Battle of Gods occurs after the defeat of Freeza, when Beerus, God of Destruction, learns of the battle and the victor being a Saiyan. Beerus then journeys to challenge Goku, who has deemed himself a worthy opponent. Critics at Kotaku and Otaku USA praised the film for its quality animation and wonderful nostalgia for older fans of the original series. It was noted that the movie has a great deal of comedy that is much more reminiscent of Dragon Ball and that fans should not go into the screening expecting an epic battle that Goku wins, like typical story lines.

Screening locations and ticket sales have not yet been made available, but fans are encouraged to sign up for e-mail alerts at the film’s website, in order to be the first to receive the information.
