Even after the Mass Effect controversy, Bioware isn’t shy about putting sex into their video games. For their next game, Dragon Age: Origins, the acclaimed development studio is aiming for a bigger shock value.
A recent ESRB listing for Dragon Age: Origins describes what will be the most controversial part of the upcoming PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 title:
“During the course of the game, players are able to visit a brothel where a hostess asks what they are interested in. If players select ‘Surprise me,’ they can sometimes wind up face-to-face with a woman, a man, a transsexual, or an animal; sexual activity is never depicted during these brothel encounters.”
Although that sequence may be tastefully done in Dragon Age: Origins, it will certainly caused quite a bit of stir once the mass media gets a hold of the information, especially with the bestiality part.
The ESRB also describes another sexual encounter scene which has already been shown to the public:
“Players can also initiate brief cutscene sequences in which couples (male and female or same sex couples) can be depicted kissing, embracing, and caressing one another as the screen fades to black.”
While it seems nothing out of the ordinary, a similar scene from Mass Effect caused numerous outcries from the mass media. You can see a small portion of the sexual encounter from Dragon Age: Origins in the trailer below.
It should be noted, however, that Dragon Age: Origins contains no human nudity whatsoever as the ESRB later explained in their rating summary:
“Though the game never features human nudity, one female demon character is briefly depicted with bare breasts.”
Dragon Age: Origins will be released on October 20th for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It is rated M (Mature) for Blood, Intense Violence, Language, Partial Nudity and Sexual Content.

I would like to draw attention to the Dragon Age forums where there has been a bioware emploee's post stateing that there will be no bestiality
Quote- There is no bestiality. I'd be careful about jumping to conclusions, as some of the ESRB descriptions are pretty dry descriptions of something that either happens in passing or is played for humour -- but even such references need to be dissected in this manner in order to have full disclosure.
The full topic can be found in genral discussion section of the dragon age forum. The topic title is Sexual Encounters Detailed.
BAW GAWD, IN COMES STONE COLD FROM BEHIND WITH A STEEL CHAIR.ITS OVER ITS OVER.RING THE DAMN BELL REF.
Well, this game just got scratched from my 'to get' list.
I dont see the big deal. I play games because i enjoy them not because of nudity or what not. If its a good game ill buy it regardless of nudity etc.
If anyone doesnt want to see nudity in a game then dont buy the game. Quit complaining!
I own Mass Effect and the supposed lude scene in it is nothing when compared to some rated R movies. Example: Underworld Evolution
This reminds me of people complaining about all the zombies being black in RE5. HELLO they are in africa what do you expect. I dont recall Hispanics complaining about RE4. No Im not Hispanic.
This is disgusting.
I'll be passing on this one.
I continue to applaud Bioware for their attempts at including (semi-)realistic adult relationships in a game. Most of these cutscenes in their games amount to 5 seconds out of the 30+ hours you'll be playing but often help to expand upon the character development. Plus, making a joke that "implies" bestiality does not mean your character has necessarily engaged in it nor does it mean they'll be showing it. With the average gamer age range being 18-35yr olds (predominantly male), Game Developers need to continue making games that are deeper, more cerebral, more realistic, and that sometimes means showing a semblance of an adult relationship to adults playing the game. These things shouldn't be a problem for adult gamers. As for children playing it, I leave it to the parent(s). Parent(s) who buy games for their child(ren) need to be aware of the ESRB rating, understand what is in the game, and know their child well enough to know what he/she is mature enough to play
ohhh my goddd everyone look at how terrible it is, two males having sex! wait, shouldn't the fact that you can murder and decapitate people be more controversial? nope, of course not. the world is a bunch of idiots...
Waaah, i won't buy the game. Waaaah, its disgusting. Shut up and go play Viva Pinata or something.
One of the best RPG games i have played in a long time, its not as exspansive as Morrowind or fallout but it is really good fun. The fights can be easy medium hard or extremely hard depending on the difficulty you selected.
If you like RPG's If you like Medieval action If you like a realistic battle partner who gets mad or glad depending on the actions you take you have to buy this game.
i think it's funny how people go ape ****(it won't let me curse) over a sex scene. heck, they don't show anything so, why is it that bad? "if my child plays this game he'll grow up confused". no he won't, hell, now he'll know about something he should've known if he's into these games anyway, or he already does. and no one thinks that killing someone is bad. or if they do, a regular thing like sex is somehow worse in their eyes. but when a kid decapitates someone, and another one knocks up a girl, the one killing will be linked back to games. Hippocrates
OMG! woman have boob ? O_O
This game was one of the best I have ever played. I will be repeating and I look forward to DA2. I think the romantic/sexual aspect makes it even more fun to play!
