While Bioware’s Dragon Age: Inquisition will launch this fall, the developer still hasn’t shared a number of details about the game such as the full roster of the game’s party member companions or which characters will be possible romance choices. All modern Bioware titles give players the option to enter into a relationship with select non-player characters. Offering partial clarification on the role of one recurring character from the franchise, Dragon Age Creative Director Mike Laidlaw confirmed on April 28 that Cullen will return as a love interest in the series’ upcoming third entry.

Knight Commander Cullen appeared in both Dragon Age: Origins as well as Dragon Age II. Since he has also been confirmed to return again in this next installment of Bioware’s fantasy franchise, Cullen will be among only a handful of characters that will have appeared in all three games. Despite his popularity, Cullen has never actually been either a companion or a potential love interest in previous Dragon Age games. However, fans will finally be able to romance Cullen for the first time in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

While the Knight Commander from Dragon Age II will be a love interest in Inquisition, Bioware isn’t ready to say whether Cullen will also be a companion character or not. Traditionally, most romance options from the developers games are also generally comprised of party members since these are the characters that players will spend the most time with inside the games. At this point, however, the developer simply won’t reveal Cullen’s in-game status other than that he will be a love interest.

Dragon Age: Inquisition launches on Xbox 360, Playstation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 on Oct 7. Those who pre-order the game will receive the Flames of the Inquisition pack which will give them access to exclusive weapons. The game will be the first Bioware title to appear on the new generation of consoles and will thus be the developer’s most visually impressive game to date.

Update: It is possible that which NPCs who may become love interests could possible change depending on what race gamers choose to play as. After fans asked on Tuesday if there will be romance restrictions based upon the race of the two individuals, Laidlaw merely answered "details later." Some speculate that due to Dragon Age lore that some races may be physically incompatible with other species. This could be particularly problematic for qunari characters.
