Dr. Oz unveils fattening diet lies and slimming weight loss truths

We have more information about calories, carbohydrates and fats than ever before in the world of health and weight loss. But we also are faced with more fiction and what Dr. Mehmet Oz describes as "health lies making you fat." On his Monday show, he unveiled the most fattening diet lies and the corresponding slimming weight loss truths. His guest expert was Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of "Eat to Live: The Amazing Nutrient-Rich Program for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss" (click for details) and "The End of Dieting: How to Live for Life."

Have you heard that eating mini-meals or grazing is the ideal way to lose weight? That's a health lie, according to Dr. Fuhrman. To optimize your metabolism and boost weight loss, he believes you should eat three meals a day without snacks.

And if you think that low-carb diets that allow you unlimited amounts of beef and butter are the best approach to shedding pounds, that's also false, says Dr. Fuhrman. His "End of Dieting" weight loss plan allows you to eat unlimited amounts of nutrient-dense foods such as vegetables, instead, and generous portions of fruits and beans. He's also concocted a cookbook "Eat to Live Cookbook: 200 Delicious Nutrient-Rich Recipes for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss, Reversing Disease, and Lifelong Health" (click for details).

As for incorporating fats into your diet such as butter, Dr. Fuhrman thinks that the recent promotion of such fats as good for you also is false. He recommends nuts for healthy fats instead.
