Probiotics win for fitness and health, says Dr. Oz

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." That famous quote sums up how Dr. Mehmet Oz feels about diet trends in 2013. From the best to the worst, he dished up the weight loss winners and losers on his Dec. 11 talk show. And we've got the skinny here.

Although Dr. Oz has featured the benefits of going gluten-free and avoiding wheat on his talk show several times, he views gluten-free dieting as the worst fad diet of 2013. Why? Because of the glut of high sugar gluten-free food products. Manufacturers often remove the wheat and replace it with sugar, which causes gluten-free versions of foods to actually have more calories. However, probiotics rank as the best weight loss trend, says Dr. Oz. When you have too much bad bacteria in your body, you can gain weight. The good bacteria in probiotics reduce inflammation while eliminating the bad bacteria. You can add probiotics to your diet by eating yogurt or take a supplement. If you choose to take a supplement, look for one that contains a high number of CFUs, such as NOW Foods Probiotic-10 25 Billion (click for details).
