Ready for anti-aging superstar supplements that can turn back the clock? How about help with overcoming emotional eating during the stress of the holidays? On his Dec. 18 talk show, Dr. Mehmet Oz featured the newest anti-aging supplements and offered tips for emotional eaters. Plus: Find out about the dance to burn fat.
Meet artichoke extract, which Dr. Oz views as one of the best new anti-aging supplements. It can ease digestive problems, help control your cholesterol and even protect your liver. It's available in different formats, including artichoke tea, or supplement form, such as Jarrow Formulas Artichoke 500.
As we get older, many of us worry about those "senior moments" when we can't remember something. Dr. Oz says that a new supplement can help. It's called Bacopa and contains antioxidants to keep your brain young. It's available at health food stores or online, such as Nutrigold Bacopa Gold. In addition, he suggests using walnut oil on your salads to provide brain-boosting omega-3s.
Do you turn to food for comfort over the holidays? Emotional eating can provide temporary help, but the weight that gain in using food for the wrong reasons can cause emotional and physical problems, says Dr. Oz. He and Dr. Mike Roizen, authors of "YOU: The Owner's Manual: An Insider's Guide to the Body That Will Make You Healthier and Younger," recommend these four steps to controlling your eating:
- Automate your breakfasts to start off each day with a healthy choice such as oatmeal.
- Stop mindless eating. Think before you reach for food and make sure you're really hungry.
- Eat more protein to satisfy your hunger.
- Find active ways to celebrate: Go for a walk on Christmas Eve, for example, rather than bake and eat cookies.
