New Year’s Day 2012 is just around the corner, and for most of us, we’ll be making another resolution to lose weight and get healthy. Aiding us in that resolution is popular doctor and television host Dr. Mehmet Oz, who introduced his Transformation Nation: Million Dollar You program on a recent episode of “The Dr. Oz Show,” with the mission to change lives all over the country.

In a recent interview, Dr. Oz discussed New Year’s resolutions and the best way to make those weight-loss resolutions a reality.

“It's a time of reinvention, revisiting the things that you want to do in your life and then committing to them … what people ought to be thinking about for the next two weeks is their New Year's resolution,” Dr. Oz said, adding that the biggest mistakes people make are not being concrete enough with the goal and not holding themselves accountable for their goal.

“So set a goal that is unambiguous. ‘I'm going to lose seven pounds by this month or by my birthday or by whatever the endpoint is,’ and that's something that you're going to hold yourself accountable to … if you tell people publicly you're doing it, and better yet, if you partner with one or two of them so they can help you in your darker times, that will allow you succeed at a much greater rate than people who don't do those two things.”

Dr. Oz’s Transformation Nation revolves around a seven-step program that encourages you to reach out to friends and family, talk to your doctor, find a fitness regimen that works for you and more. Dr. Oz, Weight Watchers, Sharecare and a network of health professionals are on hand to help you through each step, and as of the publishing of this article, more than 497,000 people had signed up for the chance to better themselves and their health – and of course, a chance to win the $1 million grand price (official rules here).
