Dr. Mehmet Oz revealed tips for accelerating weight loss and melting belly fat on the May 5 episode of the Dr. Oz Show. Now that swimsuit season is around the corner, everyone is looking for shortcuts to trim their midsections.

Belly fat isn't just unsightly. It's the most dangerous fat you can have on your body because visceral fat (which surrounds your organs) is a predictor of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and many cancers.

Dr. Oz said the following supplements torch belly fat:

Forskolin supplement. Forskolin is an herb that has been shown to promote the breakdown of stored fats. Dr. Oz said 125 mg of Forskolin supplement in the morning can help release fatty acids from adipose tissue.

Green tea. Green tea contains EGCG, an antioxidant that burns fat and protects against the free-radical damage that fuels aging and cancer. Dr. Oz said drinking two cups of green tea a day can help melt belly fat. Green tea also prevents fat storage and reduces your risks for heart disease and cancer, he said.

CLA supplement. Studies show that conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) burn belly fat and increase lean body mass. CLA supplements work by speeding up the process by which your cells release fat. The catechins from green tea combined with the fat-fighting properties of CLA deliver a powerful one-two punch when it comes eliminating belly fat, said Dr. Oz.

High Intensity Interval Training Torches Fat

Another way to burn belly fat is to do high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which has been shown to burn fat faster than regular, low-intensity workouts.

Dr. Michael Mosely, who lost 20 pounds by following the intermittent-fasting plan he detailed The Fast Diet, said you can get an effective fat-burning workout in under 7 minutes. The key to torching fat and accelerating weight loss is doing short bursts of intense exercise instead of long, drawn-out workouts.

Studies show that women who did 20 minutes of HIIT three times a week burned more belly fat than women who exercised at a moderate pace for 40 minutes three times a week. Mosley revealed his "fast workout" secrets in his new book, FastExercise: The Simple Secret of High-Intensity Training.
