Dr. Mehmet Oz revealed how to enhance summer weight loss by eliminating your cravings for sugar, salt and carbs on May 14 episode of the Dr. Oz Show.
Dr. Oz said eating too much sugar and carbs cause weight gain, diabetes, cancer, fatty liver, and brain disorders. "Sugar is eight times more addictive than cocaine,” said Dr. Mark Hyman, author of the 10-Day Detox Diet.
Protein, carbs and fats. Dr. Oz said the best way to end sugar cravings is to pair protein and healthy fats with carbs, so your blood sugar stays steady. Blood-sugar fluctuations cause hunger, so your best defense is a well balanced meal.
Red pepper flakes. As odd as it may sound, sprinkling ½ teaspoon of red pepper flakes or red chili pepper on your food can dramatically curb carb cravings. Dr. Oz said this one habit can help you eat 30% less during the day.
Caralluma fimbriata appetite suppressant. Dr. Oz said caralluma fimbriata, a succulent cactus from Sri Lanka and India, is an ancient remedy to curb hunger and enhance endurance. Caralluma fimbriata has been used for hundreds of years and is a safe appetite suppressant. He said taking 50 mg twice a day, before breakfast and dinner, will help you eat less all day.
Dr. Oz shared other weight-loss and diet tips in his book, YOU: Losing Weight.
Simple, Inexpensive Haircare Tips
On a separate segment, Dr. Oz revealed how to protect your hair from getting damaged, either from over-styling or summer sun exposure.
Castor oil. Coloring your hair or getting flat-ironing it dries out your hair, making it brittle. But applying a little bit of castor oil (which has follicle-protecting omega 9 fatty acids) thickens and regrows hair because it penetrates into the follicles that produce hair, said Dr. Oz.
Hairspray sunscreen. Overexposure to the sun can cause split ends and make your hair look like a Brillo pad. One way to protect yourself is to use hairspray sunscreens, which are made specifically for hair.
