Dr. Mehmet Oz revealed three natural ways to prevent cancer on the May 20 episode of the Dr. Oz Show. Dr. Oz said the keys to dramatically reducing your cancer risk are probably in your kitchen right now.
1. Oolong tea and green tea. Dr. Oz's guest was Dr. William Li, president and medical director of the Angiogenesis Foundation. Dr. Li said you can slash your risk of contracting ovarian cancer by 82% by consuming green tea or oolong tea, according to a study done by Curtin University in Australia.
Tea contains flavonoids, which are natural cancer fighters, and green tea and oolong tea contain the highest concentration of flavonoids. Drinking 4 cups of green or oolong tea (without sugar) can literally kill cancer cells before they start, said Dr. Oz.
2. Coffee. Another way to prevent cancer is to drink coffee, which is rich in antioxidants. Dr. Li said drinking three cups of black coffee a day has been shown to cut your liver cancer risk by 50%. Li cited a study done by the Mario Negri Institute in Italy, which showed that the antioxidants in coffee starved liver-cancer cells by cutting off their blood supply.
Coffee also reduces your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. You can drink either caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee. But make sure you drink black coffee (without added milk or sugar) to get the full cancer-prevention benefits.
3. Peaches. Finally, a third natural way to prevent cancer to eat peaches. Research shows that peaches contain cancer-fighting polyphenols that prevent tumors from developing in your breasts. Dr. Li said eating two servings of peaches every week can cut your breast cancer risk by 40%.
Diet Supplements for Summer Weight Loss
Dr. Oz said you can block fat and calorie absorption by taking a weight-loss supplement called FBCx, which literally flushes fat from your system. Dr. Oz said FBCx is a soluble fiber that binds to the fat we consume and can eliminate 500 calories a day. FBCx is especially helpful for those times when you overindulge.
"Every time you cheat on your diet, I want you to grab one of these itty-bitty pills," he said. "This tiny tablet can push a lot of fat out of your body."
On a previous episode, Dr. Oz discussed the weight-loss supplement Meratrim, which combines the fat-fighting properties of the herb sphaeranthus indicus and the flower Garcinia Mangostana.
Dr. Oz had asked 30 audience members to use the Meratrim supplement for two weeks and report their results. Amazingly, all the women lost an average of 3 pounds and 3 inches off their waists after taking Meratrim. Dr. Oz said for best results, do the following:
- Take 400mg of Meratrim 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner.
- Walk 30 minutes a day.
