If you are struggling to lose weight, weight loss surgery may be beneficial, according to Dr. Oz. During a segment on his show, Dr. Oz explained that weight loss surgery, or gastric bypass surgery, offers many benefits in addition to weight loss.
Weight loss surgery could reduce your risk of Type 2 diabetes, and possibly reverse the condition if you already have it. It may also lower your risk for heart disease and other illness associated with obesity.
Dr. Oz believes that gastric bypass surgery the most under-performed surgery given the number of people that qualify for this type of weight loss treatment. The surgery is generally considered safe and effective. The process involves reducing the size of the stomach so that people will feel full faster, and eat less food causing them to lose weight.
Most people are able to leave the hospital around two days after having gastric bypass surgery. Depending on their diets, some people will need to take vitamin supplements regularly following the surgery.
Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of weigh loss surgery if you are overweight or struggling with obesity. It is often best to consider surgery as a last resort after modifying your diet and lifestyle.
