Dr. Oz highlighted 5 warning signs of food addiction which affects millions of Americans. Food addiction  is often the result of unmanaged stress. A lot of people are emotional eaters and food is a source of comfort in the face difficulties. 

Dr. Oz - Food Addiction Warning Signs. 
1. First One of the most common indications of food addiction is hiding food. If you are hiding food in your car, home, or office, this is a clear indication that you are addicted to food, and your addition is out of control. 
 
2. The second food addiction warning sign Dr. Oz presented was food obsession. Is your mind filled with thoughts about food throughout the day? If you find yourself thinking about food for more than an hour each day, then you may be addicted to food. 
 
3. Dr. Oz’s next warning sign of food addiction is eating after arguing. Do you immediately head to the refrigerator after arguing with a significant other?

4. Another warning sign of food addiction is experiencing withdrawal symptoms when not eating. Do you feel shaky or get sweaty when you are not eating? Does your body crave food to the point that you feel withdrawal symptoms when you fail to satisfy the cravings? 
 
5. The last warning sign of food addiction shared by Dr. Oz is the inability to stop eating even when you are not hungry. Do you find yourself eating nonstop for the sake of eating? Do you eat whenever and wherever food is available? 
 
Dr. Oz - Steps to Break Food Addiction. 
Although professional counseling is often beneficial for people suffering with food addiction, there are personal steps individuals can take to break their addiction. Dr. Oz recommends taking the following steps to end food addiction. 
 
Dr. Oz - Step One. Write the words frustrated, lonely, anxious, and bored on an index card and keep it in your wallet. If you look for food when you feel any of these emotions, have a plan of action steps you can take to prevent you from eating. For example, telephone a friend or take a walk. Distance yourself from food so that you will break the habit of eating for emotional reasons. You need to break your association of feelings to food. 
 
Dr. Oz - Step Two. Keep a food journal to help you overcome your addiction. Whenever you eat write about the emotions that you feel at the time. Then refer to your journal and try to reflect on your feelings. This will help you determine which emotions are causing you to eat. 
 
Dr. Oz - Step Three. Keep a food log. Dr. Oz recommends writing down everything you eat, including when and where you ate, and how you felt at the time. Are you driven to eat more when you are around certain people or in specific places?
