Do you know your hormone type and how to balance it? During his Feb. 18 talk show, Dr. Mehmet Oz invited holistic doctor Natasha Turner, author of "The Hormone Diet: A 3-Step Program to Help You Lose Weight, Gain Strength, and Live Younger Longer," to explain how to use natural supplements and other holistic methods such as meditating to enhance your life, from your weight to your mood to your health. Here are the keys (for the full details, get the "Hormone Diet: A 3-Step Program to Help You Lose Weight, Gain Strength, and Live Younger Longer" now by clicking here):
First, determine your hormone type by taking the quiz in the slideshow. Then use the tips below to balance your type:
- Are you a "hungry" hormone type? Try phosphatidylserine to ease stress hormones. Dr. Turner, who also authored "The Carb Sensitivity Program: Discover Which Carbs Will Curb Your Cravings, Control Your Appetite, and Banish Belly Fat," recommends 100 mg before bed, because it is calming and might even improve your sleep. She also suggests yoga, such as "Yoga for Stress Relief."
- For "moody" hormone types, Dr. Turner suggests 50 to 200 mg of 5 HTP daily and 200 to 400 mg of rhodiola. She also suggests meditating.
- "Sluggish" hormone types may benefit from 25 to 100 mg of 7-Keto DHEA and .5 melatonin at night to improve sleep. Try walnuts and tart cherry juice as well.
