Seeking help for that morning grogginess, mid-afternoon slump or post-dinner fog? Dr. Mehmet Oz tackled the topic of fatigue on his September 30 talk show, and revealed tasty tips ranging from desserts to lattes. In addition, he talked with the Cookie Monster about how to overcome cravings for (you guessed it) cookies. He also discussed his new superfood mulberry (learn more by clicking here).
Fatigue can occur at different points throughout your day, and Dr. Oz recommends holistic remedies targeted at the time at which your fatigue happens:
- Tired in the morning? Dr. Oz suggests a latte rather than regular coffee, because the latte contains protein in the form of milk.
- Starting to feel fatigued in the mid-afternoon? Dr. Oz lit two aromatherapy candles and suggested sniffing those rather than heading for the nearest vending machine. Try an energizing aromatherapy fragrance such as peppermint.
- Exhausted after dinner and can't even get up the energy to watch the "Dr. Oz Show" for inspiration? Sweeten your day with dessert, says Dr. Oz. The secret: Make sure your dessert contains magnesium. Dr. Oz says that most of us don't get enough of it. Good sources include bananas and peanut butter. Our tip: You can try unsweetened banana chips spread with peanut butter and sprinkled with cinnamon for a flavorful, diet-friendly dessert filled with magnesium.
Next up, Dr. Oz visited with the Cookie Monster, who wailed as Dr. Oz tempted him with cookies. The message: Control your cravings. You can learn more with "Sesame Street: C Is for Cooking."
