Dr. Oz gives solutions for liver repair and detox (Video)

Audiences learned how to restart their bodies on the Jan. 8 episode of “The Dr. Oz Show.” Dr. Oz has been driving it home that this is a new year, so it is time to get control of your body and habits.

The episode focused on the damage that is done to the body over time through eating unhealthy foods and drinking alcohol. The liver is one of the first organs to take a hit. Fatty food clogs the liver, making it impossible for it to function correctly. Dr. Oz said this leads to other organs, including the heart, failing as well.

However, Dr. Oz said there is good news. He explained the liver is able to cleanse and repair itself with just a little help from us. He gave two simple solutions to kick start the healing process in the liver. This leads to healing in the rest of the body.

Dr. Oz said the most important part of repairing liver damage is to eat three cups of a mixture of leafy greens and broccoli each day. (Try Kristen Bell's green smoothie recipe.) He said the body should begin to feel less sluggish in just a few days.

He also gave a recipe for a liver repair elixir to be taken each morning. Simply add the juice from a wedge of lemon and two dashes of hot sauce to a glass of warm water. This should be sipped every morning. The vitamin c soothes inflammation and the capsaicin detoxes.

Dr. Oz said it is also crucial to limit sugar and fatty foods.
