During his five years as a health talk show host, Dr. Mehmet Oz has emphasized the use of holistic, natural remedies whenever possible. On his March 13 episode, Dr. Oz featured his favorite all-natural, safe and effective painkillers for problems ranging from migraines to back pain. Plus: Get Dr. Oz's no-bake energy bar recipe.

Migraines rank as one of the most debilitating conditions among women, in particular. Symptoms include nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, vertigo and intense head pain. For some sufferers, the onset of a migraine means taking time away from work, family and friends.

To minimize migraine pain and frequency, Dr. Oz recommends magnesium. He suggests taking 400 to 600 milligrams daily of magnesium citrate.

Other causes of chronic pain can range from fibromyalgia to back problems. One holistic solution recommended by Dr. Oz: Non-addictive Corydalis. Try three to nine grams daily of granules or capsules.

And for another natural pain solution that's particularly effective for those who sit for long periods of time: Dr. Oz advocates using a butt pillow, such as the Aylio Coccyx Orthopedic Comfort Foam Seat. These pillows are designed to ease nerve pain. They're designed like horseshoes and typically are made with foam to ease back pain and upper thigh pain as well.

Do you suffer from fatigue in the mid-afternoon or mid-morning? Instead of reaching for coffee or a doughnut, try making Dr. Oz's No Bake-Energy Bar recipe below. They combine protein, fiber and antioxidants to stabilize your blood sugar and boost your energy for hours.

  • 1 cup quick-cook oats, uncooked
  • 1/3 cup dried tart cherries
  • 1/2 cup all-natural peanut butter
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Mix the ingredients together in a bowl. Spread the mixture in a pan and refrigerate for 2 hours. Slice and enjoy. Return uneaten bars to fridge for storage.
