Dr. Oz reveals best detox diets for weight loss: Cleanse and flush fat

Have you wondered if you might benefit from a detox diet? Curious about the different types? On his Jan. 27 talk show, Dr. Mehmet Oz explored three different types of detox plans and explained how to choose the right one for weight loss and health.

Dr. Alejandro Junger served as the detox diet expert for this episode of the "Dr. Oz Show." He's the author of "Clean Gut: The Breakthrough Plan for Eliminating the Root Cause of Disease and Revolutionizing Your Health" and "Clean -- Expanded Edition: The Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body's Natural Ability to Heal Itself."

To determine the right detox diet for you, Dr. Junger explained that three types exist: Liquid cleanse, the gut flush and the vegan cleanse. Your symptoms and condition can help you find the right type for you.

If you're sluggish, eat primarily processed food and carry your fat all over your body, Dr. Junger recommends his 3-Day Liquid Cleanse. It will boost your weight loss while detoxifying your entire body.

Meals for Liquid Cleanse

  • Breakfast: Liquid meal: shake
  • Lunch: Liquid meal: shake
  • Dinner: Liquid meal: shake or soup
  • Snacks: Green juice, 1 cup of almonds, or 1 cup of berries

Key Rules

  • No Solid Foods: Drink three liquid meals
  • Add Plant Protein to Shakes: Add at least 14 to 20 grams of plant protein to your shakes throughout the day. Tip: You can find plant protein in health food stores or online, such as Lifetime Life's Basics Plant Protein, which has 22 grams of protein per serving.
  • Include Healthy Fats.
  • Avoid all nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, potatoes)
  • Green Juice: Have a green vegetable juice as a snack

Meals for Gut Flush

  • Breakfast: Liquid meal: shake
  • Lunch: Solid meal

  • Snacks: Veggies, 1 cup of almonds or 1 cup of berries

Foods to Eat

  • Whole vegetables
  • Greens and fresh vegetable juices
  • Sweet potatoes and yams
  • Wild fish, grass-fed meats and eggs
  • Fermented foods
  • Nuts, seeds and nut butters
  • Avocado and coconut
  • Fresh and frozen berries
  • Whole fruits
  • Small amounts of caffeine in the form of green tea

If you have inflammation in your body (such as hives), you may have food allergies or sensitivity. Dr. Junger’s 7-Day Vegan Cleanse can help you detect them by eliminating the most common foods for a week. Then gradually add them back one at a time to find the culprit.

Meals for Vegan Cleanse

  • Breakfast: Solid meal
  • Lunch: Solid meal
  • Dinner: Solid meal
  • Snacks: Veggies, 1 cup of almonds or 1 cup of berries

Key Rules

  • No Animal Products: Avoid all meats, chicken, turkey, fish, dairy and eggs
  • No Gluten: Avoid wheat products or any other grains that have gluten (oats, spelt, barley, rye)
  • No Nightshade: Avoid all nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, potatoes)
  • Maximize Anti-Inflammatory Superfoods: Cook with turmeric and ginger
