Can you use the foods in your kitchen to cure what ails you? Yes, says Dr. Mehmet Oz. And to prove it, he featured "kitchen cures" on his October 18 talk show ranging from balancing your blood sugar to flushing excess estrogen for weight loss. Plus: Learn how Dr. Oz's featured Friday guests T-Boz and Chilli from the Grammy-winning group TLC triumphed over tragedy.
Dr. Oz invited Peggy Kotsopoulos to reveal her favorite "kitchen cures" from her new book "Kitchen Cures: Revolutionize Your Health with Foods that Heal" (click for details). Peggy offered these tasty tips for inexpensive holistic diet cures:
- Do you know the key to balancing your blood sugar? Peggy suggests omega-3 fats, which are available in foods such as salmon and walnuts. Learn about a new study revealing the many benefits of walnuts for weight loss and diabetes by clicking here.
- Peggy warns that toxins in your environment can result in excess estrogen. The result: Weight gain. You can flush that excess from your body with healthy vegetable choices such as cauliflower and broccoli.
- Bolster your immune system with mushrooms. They contain immune-modulating and anti-tumor properties because they provide you with beta-glucans.
Also featured on Dr. Oz's October 18 talk show: T-Boz and Chilli, who talked about how Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins battled both sickle cell anemia and a brain tumor.
Sickle cell anemia causes the body to manufacture sickle-shaped red blood cells which contain abnormal hemoglobin called sickle hemoglobin or hemoglobin S. The disorder can raise the risk of infection while causing pain.
Tionne noted that the first sign of her brain tumor was an ongoing headache. An MRI revealed her tumor. She's grateful to have regained her health and her ability to sing again.
