Dr. Oz anti-aging spices

Spice up your food and improve your health with the top 10 anti-aging herbs and spices presented on the Dr. Oz show. Dr. Oz and guest, Dr. Joseph Mercola, discussed the health benefits of these anti-aging spices, which are readily available and inexpensive.

Italian Spice. Known for being rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, Italian spice is a popular seasoning for everyday foods. It ranks number 10 on the Dr. Oz anti-aging spice list. 
 
Thyme. Dr. Mercola explained that thyme was anti-microbial and is often used in mouth wash. It also contains anti-oxidants. Thyme is number 9 on the Dr. Oz anti-aging spice list. 
 
Sage. According to Dr. Oz, sage is beneficial for both arthritis and asthma. It ranks as number 8 on his anti-aging spice list.
 
Marjoram. Ranking at number 7 on the Dr. Oz anti-aging spice list, marjoram is great for digestion and as a sleep aid. It has anti-bacterial properties and is used as an antiseptic in some cultures.

Oregano. “Oregano is anti-microbial,” said Dr. Mercola. “It is good for fungal infections,” added Dr. Oz. Oregano ranks as number 6 on the anti-aging herbs and spice list.
 
Apple Pie Spice. This spice ranks at number 5 on the Dr. Oz anti-aging list. Dr. Mercola explained that the ginger in apple pie spice is a natural remedy for nausea during pregnancy and seasickness. 
 
Jamaican Allspice. Jamaican allspice is helpful for gas and digestion problems. It is a combination of pimento, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Jamaican allspice is number 4 on the Dr. Oz anti-aging spice list.
 
Cinnamon. Dr. Oz has always touted the health benefits of cinnamon. Cinnamon contains anti-cancer properties and also helps lower blood sugar levels. Cinnamon enhances the flavor of dessert recipes and coffee. Cinnamon ranks number 3 on the Dr. Oz anti-aging spice list.
 
Cloves. Cloves, which have the highest level of anti-oxidants of all herbs and spices, rank at number 2. They are also known for their ability to lower blood sugar levels. In fact, cloves are more effective at reducing blood sugar than cinnamon.
 
Turmeric. Turmeric is the number 1 anti-aging spice on the Dr. Oz list. It has anti-inflammatory properties. “I think it fights cancer as well,” said Dr. Oz.
