Every time that there is a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Day, there is a heighten seense of how much he achieved in his short span of life. Few can claim as many accomplishments. Even though there are supporters, there is still those who would minimize the significance of his accomplishments. He was not only awarded a doctorate but was a reverend as well. Not only that, he applied all that he learned through that long journey which some can appreciate first hand. He has inspired many through the years even during and after his untimely death. He has also transcended above the racial issues so prevalent in the day to inspire those of other nationalities and circumstances. Even though other countries have elected women for office, we have only elected an African American president,. The time will come when even this will be achieved continuing the dream of the late Dr. Martin Luther King.
In 2013, the local celebration emphasized the legacy that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has given to future generations (Merced Sun-Star, 2013). There is still much to be done.
