Dr Lobsang Sangay urges China to stay out of Indo-Tibetan matters

The Tibetan government in exile has been fortunate to have found a home in India where democratic traditions favor the Tibetan cause. A desire by Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay to have China stay out of Indo-Tibetan matters has widespread support in the Syracuse Buddhist community where democratic traditions are also favored.

It has been reported by the Tibet Sun "China urged not to interfere in Indo-Tibetan matters." Dr. Lobsang Sangay has urged China not to interfere in Indo-Tibetan matters and to stop advising Indian authorities whom to meet and not to meet. In the aftermath of news the Chinese government had advised the Governor of West Bengal not to meet with the Dalai Lama, Sangay is reported to have said that it is immoral on the part of China to interfere and advise the Governor of West Bengal whom to meet or not to meet.

Sangay has commented “China should not dictate terms like that because India is a sovereign country; whatever India decides it’s their matter. So, a counselor carrying a letter and interfering with whom the Governor of West Bengal meets, I think they should keep it to themselves." China has often attacked His Holiness the Dalai Lama as a problem for China who has been involved in a campaign to split the Himalayan region from the rest of China.

However, the Dalai Lama, says that he is only seeking increased autonomy for Tibet. Sangay has gone on to comment “Well, his holiness the Dalai Lama is an honored guest of India and it is for the Indian people to decide whom to invite and whom not to invite and I think Chinese counselors should keep their views to themselves because India is a sovereign country and Indian people will decide what they want to do."
