Dr. Lobsang Sangay meets with Danish and Norwegian political leaders

The situation in Tibet which has lead to the self-immolations of twelve young Tibetans since 2009 remains tense. Buddhists across the world who have been praying daily for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between the Tibetan Buddhists and the government of China have been in firm support of an emergency visit to seven European countries by Dr. Lobsang Sangay to raise attention to this crisis and to search for help to resolve this situation. The Tibet Post International has reported "Danish and Norwegian Politicians Meet with Tibet’s Political Leader."

While on an emergency visit to Europe, Dr. Lobsang Sangay, the Prime Minister of the Tibetan government in exile, met with several lawmakers and officials in Denmark and Norway to seek a solution to the current Tibetan problem. Mr Raymond Johansen, General Secretary of the Norwegian Labour Party, visited China last year, and told Sangay that he has been closely following the Tibet issue and will continue his support for the dialogue between the Tibetans and the Chinese government to find a humane negotiated settlement on the Tibetan issue.

And Mr Olemic Thommesen, the leader of Norwegian Parliamentary Group for Tibet and Mr Ulf Erik Knudsen, a member of the Parliamentary Group for Tibet as well as the Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed their strong support and sympathy for the Tibetan struggle and praised the non-violent path the Tibetans have taken. They also said that they would raise the Tibet issue in parliament.

Sangay than travelled to Copenhagen, Denmark where he and his delegation were well received by supporters and representatives from the Tibetan Community and The Tibet Support Committee, Denmark. His first engagement for the day was with organisations which fund educational projects of the Central Tibetan Administration. Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials attended this meeting.

Sangay than went to the Danish Parliament for a meeting with four Parliamentarians who are members of either the Foreign Policy Committee or the Foreign Affairs Committee. For the final meeting of the day Sangay met with the board and members of the Danish Tibet Support Committee. They discussed how they could work for government statements regarding the self-immolations in Tibet. The urgency of Sangay's concerns has been apparent to all concerned parties.
