It’s been quite a whirlwind lately for the celebrated Stellar Award-winning Oxon Hill High School Choir. They were blessed with the opportunity to sing at the White House as part of Black History Month celebrations and on Saturday, March 2, they treated audiences with high powered performances during their 16th Annual Gospel Explosion at National Church of God in Fort Washington, MD.
The choir is directed by Rev. Dr. Emory Andrews who is also the Director of Choirs and Choral Studies at the school. Dr. Andrews told the audience that the choir had many new members this year. However, it was hard to tell as these new members seemed to integrate into the choir quite well and delivered each song with the same high level of brilliance that has made them internationally known. They performed many favorites including “O Beautiful” and “The Storm Is Passing Over” from their self-titled 2011 release.
The show was hosted by media personality and WBBP Program Director and radio show host Tracy Morgan. Pastor Steve Lowry stopped by and brought greetings and thanked Dr. Andrews for approaching him 16 years to use National Church of God for the program.
There were several artists that dropped by and shared their talents. They included Robert E. Person, Kendall King, Rob Mercer and Phillip Carter & SOV, Anthony Younger, The Southeast Church Mass Choir, Dr. Emory Andrews & Faith, Reggie Page & Fulfilled and The Community of Hope Youth Dance Ministry. J& K Ministry Dance and Mime Ministry gave a very touching performance that had the audience entranced. Vessels of God offered some good old quartet music. The Women’s Ecumenical Choir of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. Brought the evening to a close with their powerful, rousing vocals.
It was a nice that many won’t soon forget. The Oxon Hill High School Choir continues to demonstrate why they are one of the premiere high school choirs. Those who haven't seen this choir perform should make it a point to do so.
