Just before Howard Stern bid America's favorite substance abuse counselor adieu, he made a gesture towards the elephant in the room and brought up the fact that Artie Lange was, obviously, missing.
"Send him my best," said Dr. Drew. "I've really come to have a deep affection for Artie."
Artie Lange talked serious trash about Dr. Drew in the past, calling him both exploitive and unethical for turning addiction recovery into television entertainment.
Last May, Artie Lange revealed that he had been offered $250,000 from the producers of Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab to join the cast. Artie Lange declined the offer at the time, stating that he had already shot a pilot for his own reality show called Saving Artie Lange.

When Dr. Drew visited the Howard Stern Show in November, he and Artie Lange were had clearly developed an off-air relationship. Artie admitted that during his 'mini nervous breakdown' in October, he had reached out to Dr. Drew by text message. Artie Lange said that Dr. Drew had contacted him with someone helpful coping tips, and seemed to have a newfound respect for Pinsky's understanding of the "despair and desperation" that accompany heroin addiction.
