When I first met Dr. Bruce Hopper, I felt as if I was meeting a friend for coffee, not a doctor for a cyst removal. His comfortable office environment which was much different than a traditional doctors office, and his very positive vibe made me feel at ease.
Before starting my cyst removal, we just started to talk about health and wellness, what we like to do in our spare time, and any mutual friends that we may have. Once we got past the friendly conversation, it was game time.
After telling him multiple times that I hated needles, he made the experience almost painless, and it was definitely tolerable thanks to the fact that he kept asking me how I was doing every few seconds.
Once the procedure was finished we sat and talked for a little while in his office and he told me a little bit about what he has been doing with his unorthodox practice. In a nutshell, he does not agree with the insurance industry, instead he feels as though insurance is meant for major surgeries only, not for regular doctor visits and small procedures.
For someone like me, who is an entrepreneur and pays for his own insurance, he definitely filled my needs. He is also an advocate of health and wellness, detoxifying your body and eating healthy with proper exercise. We spoke about nutrition and what kinds of foods I eat and what kind of exercise I do, as well as different supplements that I take. He gave me some advice, and told me what I was doing right, and what I was doing wrong (not much apparently). He then mentioned that he is forming a group for just this purpose and will be hosting a seminar sometime in February 2013.
He also mentioned that he is a mobile doctor for start ups in Philadelphia, so that way they can continue working at their offices and he will stop in to draw blood, run tests or other simple procedures that can be done on site.
Overall my experience with Dr. Bruce Hopper was a pleasant one, and I highly recommend him to anyone out there who doesn't currently have insurance, or whose insurance is not that great, or if you just simply want to have a doctor who cares. He was very responsive to my text messages and emails, and followed up with me regarding my procedure, and had me come in again to check on it, and to make sure I was doing well.
If you have visited Dr. Hopper, leave me a comment to tell me what your thoughts and experiences were like. And if you'd like to contact him for a visit shoot him an email here I promise you won't be disappointed!
