Dr. Ben Carson: I don't believe in political correctness

Dr. Ben Carson, the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, appeared as a guest last night on Stuart Varney's program on the Fox Business network. Dr. Carson issued a direct message for members of both parties each to stop “demonizing” the other side, put their ideas on the table, and have a rational discussion to arrive at solutions to the nation's problems.

Commenting on his high profile status since his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast last month, Dr. Carson said, “What's been truly amazing is the outpouring of sentiment across the country, it's unbelievable...saying how much they appreciate the fact that someone is speaking up.”

Dr. Carson called for both Republicans and Democrats to work together to solve the problems the country is facing.

He said, “This country, which is based on freedom of speech...we need to recognize who we are, let's start talking to each other, let's not demonize each because there's disagreement, that's how we're going to make progress. Put all the ideas out on the table and let's see if we can figure out how to do this.”

When asked about running for office in the future, Dr. Carson said, “I will continue to speak out, I'm not going to be silenced. I want to encourage other Americans to do the same thing. In terms of actual political office, it's going to be difficult for me because I don't believe in political correctness and I certainly don't believe in getting into a cesspool of special interest groups.”

Dr. Carson, who will retired from performing surgery in June, commented on his popularity and rising role as a voice on political issues, said, “I have so many things on my schedule, I may have to come back to work to get a vacation.”

Dr. Carson will also be a prominent speaker next month at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a gathering of the leaders of the conservative movement nationally.
